Branxton is a town in the Hunter Region which is located mostly in the City of Cessnock, but part of it is in Singleton Shire of New South Wales, Australia. It is approximately 171 kilometers north of Sydney via the Sydney-Newcastle Freeway and New England Highway.
Branxton was referred to as Black Hill in 1848 but was changed since according to the developer, Black Hill would not attach buyers. It was a village of 500 residents by 1860 as well as develop a steam mill, post office, a mechanics institutes, and four hotels.
Branxton is a magnificent suburb where tourists can explore the heritage, culture, and some of Australia’s winemaking origins.
There is the heritage-listed homestead Dalwood House which is now a museum. It was added on 2 April 1999 to the New South Wales State Heritage Register.
Tourists can try the Balloon Aloft, a flying hot air balloon that caters to daily sunrise flights for individuals, couples, small groups, corporate groups, or intimate VIP flights. There is also the Tourist Drive 33 which has the Convict Trail, an overland route from Sydney to Newcastle and the Hunter Valley, and National Park where tourists can immerse in nature and wildlife/animal experiences. This park includes the Hunter Valley Zoo, Australia Walkabout Wildlife Park, and Where Pigs Fly animal sanctuary.
Branxton has two primary schools. These include Branxton Public School and Rosary Park Catholic School. Most students attend high school in nearby Maitland, Singleton, or Cessnock as there is no high school in the town.
The suburb has several different sporting clubs including Greta-Branxton Colts Rugby League Football Club, Greta-Branxton Wildcats Soccer Club, Greta-Branxton United Cricket Club, and Branxton District Netball Club.
