About Rothbury
Rothbury is a small town located in the Hunter Region of New South Wales, Australia. It is about 10 km from Cessnock and 8 km from Pokolbin's vineyards.
Rothbury is home to a small population of the critically endangered North Rothbury Persoonia.
History of Rothbury
On 16 December 1929, a lockout of miners at the local colliery happened wherein police shot into a crowd of miners killing Norman Brown and injuring many more. This situation causes Rothbury to became notorious for the Rothbury Riot.
The Rothbury Riots Monument on the Great North Walk located at North Rothbury honors the memory of this tragic event.
