About Singleton

Singleton is located on the north-eastern part of the geological structure known as the Sydney basin in New South Wales, Australia. It is a town on the banks of the Hunter River and is 144 km north-west of Sydney, and 70 km northwest of Newcastle.

History of Singleton

Singleton was established in the 1820s and was also called Patrick's Plains. Its aristocratic nature of land grants was reflected by the unusual number of fine old mansions in the countryside of Singleton.

In 1955, Singleton was subject to the major flooding of the Hunter River so an embankment was constructed to help protect the town against any future flooding.
